Role Overview:
As Senior Bridge Engineer you’ll be responsible for leading the design, assessment, inspection and delivery of bridge and associated structural works (including viaducts, culverts, and retaining walls) across highways and rail sectors. Based in Liverpool, you’ll join a respected team working on major UK infrastructure projects and play a key role in ensuring all structures are safe, compliant with national standards, delivered to budget and programme.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead feasibility, concept and detailed design for new build or refurbishment of bridge structures.
Review and approve structural calculations, drawings, specifications and reports.
Conduct inspections and assessments of existing assets, producing condition reports and recommending remedial or strengthening solutions.
Maintain compliance with design codes (Eurocodes, DMRB, BS standards) and regulatory frameworks including CDM.
Integrate permanent and temporary works, liaising with design, construction, site teams and subcontractors.
Monitor project performance against budget, time and quality targets; manage risks and highlight issues early.
Mentor and develop junior engineers, fostering technical excellence and continuous improvement.
Collaborate with stakeholders — clients, contractors, authorities — and represent the business professionally.
Qualifications & Experience:
A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (MSc or equivalent preferred).
Chartered status (e.g., CEng with ICE, IStructE) or progressing towards chartership.
Proven experience (typically 8+ years) in bridge or structural engineering on major infrastructure projects.
Strong knowledge of design standards such as Eurocodes, DMRB, and experience with bridge inspection and assessment methods.
Proficiency in structural analysis software and CAD/BIM platforms.
Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills.
Comfortable working full-time based in Liverpool, with travel to site locations as required.
